You may find that you can put out a question to comment on they will give you much more than they would using pencil and paper.
Well, I'm thinking that you could post a prompt for writing. I'm planning on using this blog site for my middle school book club also.
Perhaps your could put journal entries on your blog and let students respond instead of using pencil and paper.
